Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage addresses each layer of tissue contributing to specific pains, recovering athletic injuries, and certain posture/range of motion issues. This is the most thorough and specific massage; we use a variety of techniques to address the deepest structures of tissue, including trigger point release, silicon cupping, hot compression and stretching.

No, deep tissue massage should not be painful. Getting to the “deep tissue” is all about gradually warming up each layer of muscle and connective tissue so that it is malleable and able to be manipulated. When properly warmed, massage can actually restructure the collagen fibers in your tissue for lasting mobility and pain relief. While heavy pressure can be used, it should never be more than what you are able to relax into.

If you are taking blood thinners or anticoagulants, are pregnant or within 4 weeks postpartum, or have cancer, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, EDS or blood pressure issues, you should not get a deep tissue massage. If you are seeking sports massage for injury recovery or after an intense athletic event, wait until your muscles have recovered and you are past the acute healing stage of any injury. If you have any concerns, it is always best to get clearance from your doctor before getting a deep tissue massage.
