Prenatal Massage

Note: It is recommended to avoid massage treatments in the first trimester of pregnancy. We offer prenatal massage through the second and third trimesters, as well as postpartum.

Massage can be very beneficial during pregnancy. Deep stokes on the back while side-lying relax the strained erector muscles, repetitive upward strokes on the legs and arms reduces swelling and inflammation, and deep foot massage with hot compresses relieves pain and restores flexibility. Taking your whole health into account, we can customize this massage to best serve your comfort and wellbeing throughout your pregnancy.

FAQ

  • It is always best to have a doctor’s clearance for massage during pregnancy, but in the absence of complications it is completely safe to get a massage in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy with the proper positioning and techniques. Massage is discouraged in the first trimester due to the higher risk of miscarriage during early pregnancy. While there is no evidence massage can directly cause miscarriage, no sufficient studies have been done determining that it is completely safe in the first 12 weeks.

  • Abdominal massage during pregnancy is totally up to your comfort level. This massage can include gentle massage around the ribs and sides, relaxing the intercostal muscles and draining fluids in the upper abdomen. A moisturizing combination of castor oil and argan oil is gently applied to the belly to increase skin elasticity and prevent or reduce stretch marks.

  • You can get massage treatments as often as once a week during your second and third trimesters, and you can continue treatments as soon as you like after birth.
